Taiwan's Financial Supervisory Commission has mandated a new self-regulation for crypto exchanges (VASPs) to curb money laundering. Now, users must transfer funds using bank accounts that bear their own names. This move shifts some anti-money laundering responsibilities from exchanges to banks.

• 📉 Impact on Money Laundering via Crypto: The regulation makes it harder for fraudsters to launder money using cryptocurrency. Banks now share the responsibility of filtering out suspicious accounts, enhancing transparency and security in financial transactions.

• 🔎 Increased Scrutiny by Banks and Exchanges: Banks are required to more rigorously screen for potential dummy accounts, ensuring the legitimacy of fund transfers. Simultaneously, crypto exchanges must conduct thorough KYC checks on their users.

• 🚫 Restricting Fund Transfers to Same-Name Accounts: By limiting fund transfers to accounts under the same name, the regulation aims to reduce money laundering risks and block illegal fund transfers, enhancing the overall integrity of financial transactions.

In summary, this new regulation in Taiwan not only makes it more challenging for fraudsters to use crypto exchanges for money laundering but also enforces a more comprehensive defense against financial crimes by involving banks alongside exchanges.

👁️ Worldcoin Open-Sources Orb to Address Privacy Concerns

Worldcoin, addressing privacy concerns, has open-sourced its iris scanning device, Orb. The initiative, including details of each component and their functioning, aims to mitigate market skepticism around privacy handling.

• 🔓 Open-Source Move: The open-source nature of Orb's software and hardware is expected to foster transparency and trust. Documentation and source codes are accessible on GitHub, elucidating the Iris Recognition Inference System (IRIS) process, including image segmentation, normalization, feature extraction, and IrisCode matching.

• 🔐 Fraud Detection and Privacy: Orb's fraud detection models ensure the data authenticity, operating locally for data security. Post IRIS processing, iris images are deleted, and Iris codes are securely encrypted and stored on AWS.

• 🔋 Hardware Insights: The Orb is composed of optical systems, a motherboard dividing it into hemispheres, a backend hosting the main machine and cooling system, and a replaceable battery. The optical system includes a dual-lens setup optimized for near-infrared spectrum and features customized liquid lenses.

• 🔒 Battery and Electronics: The device uses a Tesla Model S-like replaceable lithium-ion battery module. It comprises electronic components for power supply, timing, data storage, and connectivity, including a Nvidia Jetson Xavier NX SoM as its main processor.
